Our Story

The Teton County Sheriff’s Foundation was born from a clear and pressing community need. While our public officials have the will to increase law enforcement budgets, state-imposed tax limits make it impossible to bridge a critical funding gap with county funds alone. Public funds cover just half of the expenses required for adequate policing coverage of the 450 square miles of Teton County.

The results of underfunding are visible. With just one sworn officer for every 1,000 residents — far below the national average of 2.4 — deputies are stretched thin. The consequences are longer response times and less time for preventative work to keep our community safe. Burglaries and traffic accidents are on the rise. This is no surprise when we don’t have officers available for traffic patrol, security checks, and neighborhood policing.

Public safety is an issue of primary concern to residents of Teton County. The Foundation is addressing this challenge head-on. We accept private donations, secure grants, and pursue resources to ensure our law enforcement officers have the essential equipment, training, and personnel support they need. Working together, we can build a safer community for everyone who lives, works, and vacations in Teton County.
